PPI-101 is a macromolecular free radical photoinitiator designed for applications requiring low volatility, low migration, low toxicity, and low yellowing. It is particularly suitable for materials in direct contact with the human body, such as coatings and food packaging inks, and for thin coatings where oxygen inhibition is a concern.
Equivalent grades. The same substance is sold by other manufacturers as Esacure ONE, KIP 150. It is the same CAS number (163702-01-0) and the same chemistry, so a formulation written around one of those grades transfers directly.
Introduction
PPI-101 is an oligomeric alpha-hydroxy ketone, equivalent to the grade sold elsewhere as Esacure ONE or KIP 150, and it is the liquid form of that chemistry. It is a high-viscosity yellow liquid-to-solid, and it needs preheating to 80–100 °C before use so it can be dosed and dispersed.
The preheat step is the whole trade-off. If your line can accommodate a warmed dosing stage, you get the oligomeric chemistry without any powder handling at all, which matters in facilities where dust is a problem. If it cannot, PPI-ONE is the same chemistry in powder form.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Chemical name 2-hydroxy-1-[3-[4-(2-hydroxy-2-methylpropanoyl)phenyl]-1,1,3-trimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-5-yl]-2-methylpropan-1-one. Molecular formula C26H32O5, molecular weight 424.53, purity ≥95.00% by HPLC.
High-viscosity yellow liquid to solid. Absorption maximum at 257 nm. Loss on drying ≤0.30%. Recommended dosage 3–5%, preheat to 80–100 °C before use.
Applications
Thin coatings where oxygen inhibition is a problem, clear finishes where yellowing matters, and applications where a low-volatility, low-odour initiator is wanted. The low oxygen inhibition is a real advantage in thin films, where surface cure is otherwise the limiting factor.
Why the structure matters
The active group here sits on a bulky indane core rather than on a small molecule. That is a deliberate design choice, and it is the reason this chemistry is specified where migration is a concern: a large molecule diffuses through a cured film far more slowly than a small one does, so less of it reaches the surface over time. The same bulk reduces volatility, which means less evaporation in the oven and less odour in the finished article.
That is the structural argument, and it is a sound one. It is not a measurement. Actual migration depends on film weight, substrate, cure conditions and the layers above, and it has to be measured for your specific construction rather than inferred from a data sheet. Tell us the construction and we will tell you what data we hold and what you will need to generate.
Regulatory status
PPI-101 has no harmonised classification under CLP and is not on the REACH Candidate List. It is not listed in Swiss Annex 10. Because it is the same CAS as Esacure ONE, a specification written around that grade transfers directly.
Packaging
Packaging as agreed at order, with heated handling recommended. COA per batch, SDS in English, samples available.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.
Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?
Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.
What documents do you provide with each shipment?
Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.
What is your typical lead time?
Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.
What payment terms do you accept?
We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.
Are you a factory or a trading company?
We are an integrated supplier with three in-house manufacturing plants, supported by five warehouses across China. This gives us direct control over production quality while maintaining a broad product range.
