NPI-701 is a bifunctional free radical photoinitiator with high reactivity, low volatility, low migration, low toxicity, and low yellowing. It is suitable for materials in direct contact with the human body, such as coatings and food packaging inks, and its unique hydrophilicity makes it applicable in waterborne UV curing systems.
Introduction
NPI-701 is a bifunctional phenylglyoxylate ester, and it has a property that is rare in this catalogue: it is hydrophilic. That makes it usable in waterborne UV systems, which most photoinitiators cannot serve because they are oil-soluble by nature.
Beyond solubility, the two functional groups give it good reactivity at low volatility, and the combination points at thin coatings and direct-contact applications where both an efficient cure and a low-odour film are wanted.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Purity ≥95.00%. Molecular formula C20H18O7 (a mixture of phenylglyoxylic acid oxo-esters), molecular weight 370.35. Absorption maxima at 255 nm and 325 nm. Recommended dosage 3–5%.
Applications
Waterborne UV-curing systems, thin coatings where oxygen inhibition is significant, and applications calling for a low-volatility initiator. The hydrophilicity is what opens the waterborne use; if your system is solvent-based or 100% solids, other grades in this range will usually be more economical.
Regulatory status
NPI-701 has no harmonised classification under CLP and is not on the REACH Candidate List. It is not listed in Swiss Annex 10. As with the other bifunctional grades here, the low-migration argument is structural rather than measured, and any food-contact use needs migration testing on your own construction.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.
Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?
Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.
What documents do you provide with each shipment?
Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.
What is your typical lead time?
Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.
What payment terms do you accept?
We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.
