NPI-50103 CAS 71868-15-0 - Topfine Chemical

NPI-50103 is a bifunctional free radical photoinitiator with high reactivity, low volatility, low migration, low toxicity, and low yellowing. It is suitable for materials in direct contact with the human body, such as coatings and food packaging inks, and for thin coatings where oxygen inhibition is significant. Its dual functional groups provide enhanced curing performance, especially in deep-cure applications.

Introduction

NPI-50103 is a bifunctional alpha-hydroxy ketone, and the two functional groups are the reason it exists. A molecule with two initiating sites generates more radicals per unit of migration than a monofunctional one does, which lets you reach a given cure with less material moving through the film.

It is aimed at the applications where that matters: coatings and inks for food packaging, materials in direct contact with people, and thin films where oxygen inhibition would otherwise leave the surface tacky. It absorbs at 278 nm, so mercury lamps and 365 nm LEDs suit it better than longer-wavelength arrays.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Off-white powder. Chemical name hydroxy-1-[4-[4-(2-hydroxy-2-methylpropanoyl)phenoxy]phenyl]-2-methylpropan-1-one. Molecular formula C20H22O5, molecular weight 342.39, purity ≥98.00% by HPLC, loss on drying ≤0.50%. Absorption maximum at 278 nm.

Applications

Recommended at 3–5%, used with an amine synergist for improved deep curing. Thin coatings and direct-contact applications are the natural fit.

Regulatory status

NPI-50103 has no harmonised classification under CLP and is not on the REACH Candidate List. It is not listed in Swiss Annex 10.

On migration, here is the honest version. The bifunctional structure and the resulting higher molecular weight are the structural reasons this chemistry is specified where migration matters, and that reasoning is sound. It is not a measurement. Whether a given coating meets a given migration limit depends on film weight, substrate, cure and the layers above, and it has to be tested for your construction. Tell us the construction and we will tell you what data we hold and what you need to generate.

Handling & Storage

Store sealed, cool, dry and dark. Consult the SDS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.

Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?

Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.

What documents do you provide with each shipment?

Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.

What is your typical lead time?

Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.

What payment terms do you accept?

We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.

Are you a factory or a trading company?

We are an integrated supplier with three in-house manufacturing plants, supported by five warehouses across China. This gives us direct control over production quality while maintaining a broad product range.
