NPI-501 CAS 106797-53-9 - Topfine Chemical

NPI-501 is a novel free radical photoinitiator with high reactivity, low odor, low migration and low yellowing. It has good solubility in water and is suitable for most water-borne UV curing systems, especially water-based coatings and inks.

Equivalent grades. The same substance is sold by other manufacturers as Omnirad 2959, Irgacure 2959. It is the same CAS number (106797-53-9) and the same chemistry, so a formulation written around one of those grades transfers directly.

Introduction

NPI-501 is a hydroxyl ketone photoinitiator with one property that makes it unusual in this catalogue: it dissolves in water. That opens water-borne UV systems, which most photoinitiators cannot serve because they are oil-soluble by nature.

It also has a genuine United States regulatory footing, which almost nothing else in this range does. It is the photoinitiator known in the market as 2959, and it is listed in 21 CFR 175.105 and 175.125 for use as a photoinitiator in adhesives at a level not exceeding 5 percent by weight. That is a real listing, not a self-declaration, and it is worth knowing if you sell into the US.

Physical & Chemical Properties

White powder. Chemical name 2-hydroxy-1-[4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl]-2-methylpropan-1-one. Molecular formula C12H16O4, molecular weight 224.25, purity ≥98.00%, melting range 86–90 °C, loss on drying ≤0.50%. Absorption maximum at 276 nm.

Applications

Recommended at 1–3%. Suited to water-borne UV-curable coatings and inks, and to systems where a hydrophilic initiator is needed. Low odour and low yellowing.

Regulatory status

As above, NPI-501 carries a US 21 CFR listing for adhesives at up to 5 percent, which is unusual in this product family. The listing is use-specific: it covers adhesives under those sections, and it should not be read as a general food-contact approval. Elsewhere the substance has no harmonised CLP classification and is not on the REACH Candidate List. It is not listed in Swiss Annex 10.

Handling & Storage

Store sealed in a cool, dry, dark area. One year shelf life from production. Consult the SDS.

Packaging

20 kg cartons. COA per batch, SDS in English, samples available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.

Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?

Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.

What documents do you provide with each shipment?

Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.

What is your typical lead time?

Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.

What payment terms do you accept?

We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.

Are you a factory or a trading company?

We are an integrated supplier with three in-house manufacturing plants, supported by five warehouses across China. This gives us direct control over production quality while maintaining a broad product range.
