CBP CAS 134-85-0 - Topfine Chemical

CBP is a general-purpose free radical photoinitiator often used as an improved alternative to benzophenone. It provides high initiation efficiency and low odor, making it well suited for UV-curable wood coatings and varnishes. It can be used as a direct substitute for benzophenone to produce lower-odor cured products.

Equivalent grades. The same substance is sold by other manufacturers as Omnirad 915. It is the same CAS number (134-85-0) and the same chemistry, so a formulation written around one of those grades transfers directly.

Introduction

CBP is the chlorinated benzophenone, and it exists for formulators who want the BP mechanism with lower odour and a different reactivity profile. Absorption sits at 204 and 258 nm, so like all Type II benzophenones it needs a tertiary amine co-initiator and it is not a sensible choice for LED curing.

In the market it is known by the trade code 915, which is worth knowing when a specification arrives written in brand terms rather than chemical ones.

Physical & Chemical Properties

White crystalline powder. Molecular formula C13H9ClO, molecular weight 216.70, purity ≥98.00% by HPLC, melting range 74.0–76.0 °C, loss on drying ≤0.50%. Absorption maxima at 204 nm and 258 nm.

Applications

Recommended at 3–5%, always with an amine synergist. Suited to UV-curable wood coatings and varnishes, typically as a lower-odour alternative to benzophenone. Also used as a chemical intermediate.

Regulatory status

CBP has no harmonised classification under CLP and is not on the REACH Candidate List. It is not listed in Swiss Annex 10, and it is not on the EU 10/2011 Annex I positive list. As with any benzophenone-family substance, confirm the position for your specific market and end use rather than assuming it follows BP.

Handling & Storage

Store sealed, cool, dry and ventilated. Consult the SDS before handling.

Packaging

20 kg cartons or drums. COA per batch, SDS in English.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.

Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?

Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.

What documents do you provide with each shipment?

Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.

What is your typical lead time?

Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.

What payment terms do you accept?

We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.

Are you a factory or a trading company?

We are an integrated supplier with three in-house manufacturing plants, supported by five warehouses across China. This gives us direct control over production quality while maintaining a broad product range.
