Grade PID B | Metal content 7±0.2%. Used as a surface drier in alkyd paints, oil-based coatings, and printing inks to accelerate oxidation and polymerization.
Introduction
PID B is the 7% cobalt octoate grade. The reason it exists alongside the 8% product is dosing granularity: a formulator working to a tight cobalt budget, or one matching a legacy specification written around a 7% raw material, gets finer control over the metal added per batch than an 8% solution allows.
It is the same chemistry as our standard cobalt octoate and carries the same regulatory position. The difference is the metal concentration and the viscosity, which is lower here and therefore easier to pump and meter on automated dosing lines.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Blue to violet clear liquid. Metal content 7.0 ± 0.2% Co. Molecular formula C16H30CoO4. Density 0.95 ± 0.02 g/cm³ at 20 °C, viscosity ≤50 mPa·s at 25 °C, flash point ≥40 °C closed cup, acid value ≤10 mg KOH/g, moisture ≤0.1%.
Applications
Surface drier for alkyd and epoxy ester systems, at the same 0.1–0.5% on resin solids as the 8% grade but dosed proportionally higher to deliver the same cobalt. The lower viscosity suits inline dosing and automated addition.
Regulatory status
Identical to the 8% grade, because it is the same substance: no cobalt ban exists in the EU, the 2018 ECHA proposal on inorganic cobalt salts was terminated in April 2022, and no cobalt substance is on the Authorisation List. The binding constraint is the 2-ethylhexanoic acid backbone, harmonised Repr. 1B under CLP entry 607-230-00-6 and restricted under Annex XVII Appendix 6 by Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1132 from 1 December 2023. The finished paint carries H360D labelling as a result. Proposed CMRD 6 exposure limits of 0.01 and 0.0025 mg/m³ remain a proposal rather than adopted law. 21 CFR 175.300(b)(3)(xxii) lists cobalt octoate among permitted US drier combinations. Transport class UN 1268, Class 3, PG III, arising from the mineral spirits carrier.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ depends on the product and specification. For most chemicals we can supply from 1 kg sample orders up to full container loads (FCL). Contact us with the product name and CAS number for a specific MOQ quotation.
Can you provide samples before I place a bulk order?
Yes. Samples are available for most products — typically 100g to 1kg. Sample fees may apply for expensive products and are usually deducted from your first bulk order. We recommend independent testing of samples before committing to bulk.
What documents do you provide with each shipment?
Every shipment includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA), MSDS/SDS, commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Certificates of origin, REACH/SVHC declarations and third-party inspection reports are available on request.
What is your typical lead time?
Production usually takes 10–20 days depending on the product and quantity. Sea freight to most destinations takes 15–30 days; air freight 5–10 days for samples and small orders. Our five warehouses in China allow fast dispatch of stocked items.
What payment terms do you accept?
We commonly accept 30% deposit + 70% against copy of bill of lading, T/T bank transfer, and Letters of Credit (L/C) for larger orders. Payment terms are confirmed in writing before production starts.
