Phosphorus Trichloride (PCl3) is a colorless, fuming, and highly reactive inorganic chemical compound. It is a strong Lewis acid and is used as a reactant in various chemical reactions, including the production of organophosphorus compounds, such as phosphates, phosphonates, and flame retardants. Phosphorus trichloride is also used in the synthesis of phosphines, which are used as ligands in organometallic chemistry. Due to its highly reactive nature and toxic properties, handling and storage of phosphorus trichloride requires proper precautions and should only be done by trained professionals.
